KYC (Know Your Customer)

The identity-verification step financial firms must complete before a user can fully transact.

In Depth

Know Your Customer, or KYC, is the regulatory process of verifying a customer’s identity. Financial firms are required to complete it before users can deposit, trade, or transact fully.

For marketing, KYC is usually the biggest leak in the funnel, especially in crypto. Users sign up, reach verification, and abandon. Improving the KYC flow and the messaging around it often returns more than buying additional sign-ups, because more sign-ups just leak at the same rate.
